Bailey gets long look at DB
When the Bulldogs were in an 11-on-11 run drill on Thursday, freshman outside linebacker James Bailey got in a rep or two and then was sent to the other practice field.
He joined the defensive backs in a one-on-one drill against the wideouts.
“I’ll get a chance to pull those clips and teach the mechanics of covering a slot receiver,” outside linebackers coach Jordan Peterson said. “Whether it’s our zone pressure stuff or our man stuff, its similar footwork. The leverage and stuff is different. But he’s going to get a chance to go against some of the better receivers in our conference every day so it was good to get him over there to cover the slot.”
Bailey did play some strong safety at Lake Travis High in Austin, Texas, so the techniques are not foreign.
“He’s a pretty natural individual,” Peterson said. “He’s 210 pounds right now so he’s a bigger strong safety just naturally, which is perfect for us.
“But he’s so dynamic and he has done so many good things for us in fall camp that I think he’s going to bring some different things in different packages that we can utilize him in.”
