Which teams and players should you keep an eye on? We've got you covered.
Pool A: Round Rock Westwood, Austin Anderson, Lake Travis-JV, Marble Falls Predicted Champ: Round Rock Westwood Player to Watch: 2014 WR Garrett Gray, Marble Falls The 6-foot-5 Gray has BCS offers from Big 10 schools Iowa and Minnesota, as well as local school Rice. And he's also gotten a bit of interest from both Texas and Texas A&M, with both schools hosting him on unofficial visits. The second-team All-State selection caught 82 passes for 1,266 yards and 19 touchdowns a year ago. Also, keep an eye on Westwood quarterback Bear Fenimore. Westwood is a favorite to qualify out of this tournament, and the cannon-armed Fenimore is a big reason why. Pool B: Round Rock, Georgetown, Pflugerville Connally, Round Rock Stony Point Predicted Champ: Stony Point Player to Watch: 2015 WR Justin Gamble, Stony Point It's a strong pool for wideouts with Round Rock's Keyon Dilosa also hearing from a number of schools. But Gamble may have one of the higher ceilings of the receivers in attendance (especially given that the event's top two wide receiver prospects are playing quarterback). His quickness and soft hands have attracted some interest from Texas, among others, and he and Stony Point quarterback Damian Lindley might be the best quarterback-receiver duo at the Round Rock 7-on-7. It'll take a lot for Stony Point to come out of the entire event with a championship, but those two should be enough to lead Stony Point into the semifinals, one game away from state qualification. Pool C: Round Rock Cedar Ridge, Lake Travis, Pflugerville Hendrickson, Hutto Predicted Champ: Lake Travis Player to Watch: 2015 LB James Bailey, Lake Travis There should be plenty of players to watch in this pool, especially with the running back duo of Lake Travis's Shaun Nixon and Hendrickson's Samaje Perine, Texas A&M and Oklahoma commitments, respectively, going head-to-head. Nixon is especially potent at 7-on-7 events given that he runs routes and catches the ball like a wide receiver. But the pick here is Bailey, the rare linebacker who can make an impact in a 7-on-7 setting. The rangy 6-foot-2 'backer is fluid and athletic and always seems to find the ball. That's a good combination, and an X-factor that could help propel Lake Travis to the event championship. The Cavaliers have to be considered co-favorites to win the Round Rock SQT, along with recent rival Round Rock Westwood. Pool D: Round Rock McNeil, Abilene Cooper, Pflugerville, Temple Predicted Champ: Abilene Cooper Player to Watch: QB Chad President, Temple Arguably the top 2014 player in attendance is in this pool in Texas wide receiver commitment Lorenzo Joe. And probably the top 2015 prospect in attendance is also here in President. The difference is that — while both players will be playing quarterback on Saturday — only President will get a shot to play the position at the next level. Joe has developed into an outstanding high school quarterback for Abilene Cooper, but there's only so much athleticism one can show as a 7-on-7 quarterback. With President, on the other hand, we should be able to see how polished he is as a passer, given that he'll start his Baylor career as a quarterback.
