Lake Travis (2-1, 1-0 District 14-6A) scored 41 unanswered points in the second and third quarters to pull away from Hays (0-3, 0-1) 62-23 in the district opener for both schools.

James Bailey blocked a punt and recovered it for a touchdown, then stripped Hays’ Jackson Effiom on the next play, setting up one of Charlie Brewer’s three touchdown passes as the Cavaliers erased a 16-14 deficit on the way to a comfortable win.

The weather-delayed game got off to a back and forth start. Lake Travis opened the scoring by driving 70 yards in 10 plays with Brewer scoring on a six-yard keeper. Hays answered, capitalizing on a fumble to take a 10-7 lead on Cody Gandy’s 22 yard run.

Chris Roller set up Brewer’s 10-yard touchdown pass to Connor Oates with an 82-yard kickoff return to give the Cavaliers a 14-10 lead, but the Rebels turned a Brewer interception into a 16-14 lead when Braeden Kent found Brandon Hunter with a 4-yard scoring pass with 7:38 left in the half.

Lake Travis never blinked. Brewer hit Maleek Barkley for a 50-yard score on Lake Travis’ next play, sparking a 41-0 run. Abe Willows threw a touchdown pass to Hudson Fife, and Roller returned a punt for another score.

Brewer, starting again in place of Dominic De Lira, completed 13 of 17 passes for 114 yards and three scores.
