SPECIALTY AWARDS

Offensive Player of the Year: QB Sam Ehlinger, Soph., Westlake

Westlake found its offensive leader in Ehlinger, who led his team in passing and rushing. Ehlinger had 2,300 yards passing in his debut season, completing 66 percent of his passes with 24 touchdowns and six interceptions. He rushed for 722 yards on 136 attempts and had nine rushing touchdowns.

Rodolfo Gonzalez

Defensive Player of the Year; DL Sammy Ochoa, Soph., Lake Travis

It was another debut season for another newcomer. Ochoa was second on the team with 87 total tackles, just one behind leader John Brewer. He had 16 tackles for a loss and a team-leading 12 sacks. He also had three pass deflections and two blocked punts.

Newcomer of the Year: RB Abe Willows, Jr., Lake Travis

Jamie Harms

Willows put together an excellent debut season taking over the reins from graduated all-state running back Shaun Nixon. Willows proved more than worthy rushing for 1,093 yards. He averaged 6.7 yards per carry and scored 16 touchdowns, helping Lake Travis to another district championships and to the second round of the playoffs.

Coach of the Year: Hank Carter, Lake Travis

Carter is no stranger to championships. Since leading Lake Travis to the 2011 Class 4A state championship, he has coached the Cavaliers to four-straight district championships and a trip to the state semifinals. In 2014, Carters’ Cavs captured their third district title since moving to the state’s largest classification.
